Description: The bronze plaque in the garden of the Abbey lists the names of five members of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and six members of the 27th Canadian Armoured Regiment who were murdered on 7th June 1944. The next day, June 8th, seven more members of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders met the same fate. Nine days later on June 17th, Lieutenant Fred Williams and Lance-corporal George Pollard, both of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders were also shot. The twenty victims are buried at Beny Sur Mer Canadian Military Cemetery. |
